Ottaway Style X Benson & Clegg SS21
So much has changed over the past year from limited socialising, from the way we work and as with many other factors in our lives, there has bee many other adjustments to our priorities and lifestyle. This collective timeout has allowed us to take a step back and think about our wardrobes in a different way. To invest in clothing that is sourced locally, of a superior quality or reflects a more sustainable way of living. And sartorially speaking there has been a big change in gear to how men wear suits, shirts and ties, and this change in attitude of formalwear has been evolving long before the need to go in to an office was the norm.
In this brave new world with smart casual proving even more difficult to get right. I wanted to work on a project that helped you gents dress for the new formal. So with no further a due I am very excited to announce new for Spring Summer 21, Ottaway Style X Benson & Clegg. A made-to-order capsule collection with a contemporary take on the classics. Inspired by style icons of yesteryear, and designed for the modern man. This SS/21 capsule celebrates the timeless style, luxury and elegance of style icons from the 1960’s holidaying across the Italian and French Riviera. An era where men and women looked effortlessly glamorous whether having an espresso poolside in the morning at Hotel Du Cap or aperitivos on the Amalfi Coast.
For the past year I have been living in Madrid, and have been lucky enough to spend a lot more time travelling across the med especially during last Summer, where I saw a lot of Spain and Italy. Spending a lot more time in the med naturally inspired visions of the relaxed elegance of Gianni Agnelli, Jackie Onassis, and Aristotle Onassis holidaying in Ravello in 1962. I have also drawn a lot of influence from how Modern European men dress and how they invest in garments that are timeless in style, fit perfectly and can be worn effortlessly from day to evening and act as timeless wardrobe staples. Myself and the gent’s at Benson & Clegg also wanted to make a collection that was a capsule, so it allows a gent to create multiple looks with a minimal amount of pieces without the fuss or headache of how to wear each garment.
I really like the idea of a gent only having to pack only 8-10 pieces for a summer holiday, along with a good cologne, 2 pairs of great shoes packed in vintage personalised Globetrotter trunk and being ready to jet of for any occasion over the summer. I think there is something really elegant and and stylish in a chap having 8-10 beautifully made garments that fit perfectly, and allows a gent to look effortlessly stylish by chucking on a crisp white seersucker over shirt, soft pleated linen trousers and a great pair of shoes or sneakers, looking great, and feeling sharp with minimal effort and fuss. I feel SS/21 is now an opportunity for the modern day man to park the loungewear, dress up, and be inspired by an era where gents used a handful of timeless relaxed staples to look effortlessly stylish. The collection consists of 10 pieces, the focal point being the over shirt that comes in two styles made in a khaki Irish linen and a white seersucker, both over shirts are designed to be worn simply with a knitted polo or over an open collar shirt.
Knitted Ecru t-shirt & Knitted Khaki Polo
Sage Green Stripe Camp Collar Shirt & Pale Blue Camp Collar Shirt

Each garment respects the sartorial heritage of Benson & Clegg but designed with a relaxed and contemporary feel for the modern day man to create the perfect Summer capsule wardrobe. Sustainability is also a key focus of the collection, during the design process I was very conscious of the notion that less is more and with the collection being a made to order capsule, each piece will be made by private appointment or online by simply clicking here .The process will ensure each piece will fit an individual’s body shape perfectly using fabrics from Britain’s finest mills that last the test of time.
